English Class Complete!

Ahhhh, just finished my final project for my English 114 class. What a relief! I wrote a proposal and power point presentation for why we need to revise our SCBA SOG at work. ANYWAY, now I feel like I can really get into the Christmas Spirit without that hanging over my head! ~~~"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."~~~

Losing Our Cinnamon

Friday, the 27th, we had to make the difficult decision to let our Dalmatian, Cinnamon, go. She would have been 10 next week. She was in cardiovascular failure and had fluid in her lungs and abdominal cavity. Dr. Julian said that we could treat with meds and IVs, but she felt like Cinnamon would not survive the treatment. As hard as it was, we know that we made the right decision to end her suffering. I'm not sure Valerie really understands where Cinnamon is, she knows that we buried her in the backyard...she assured us that "she won't get muddy." We explained that she was very sick and has gone to heaven to be with Jesus. I'm curious when she will ask about her. We miss her very much.

Fri at 2:21pm · Lynne MillerI'm so sorry Melanie. I know what it's like. They're not just our pets, but they're our family and I know in the case of mine, they're like the other children I never was able to have. I don't know if you believe in it or not, but I've always liked to think they've gone to the Rainbow Bridge where they're running and playing and healthy and will be waiting on us one day to return to them. My prayers are with you.

Fri at 2:40pm · Tracy OrphanoudakisSorry to hear that Mel. I know 2 years ago when we had to put down Blitz, Georgia took that really hard but she went with Andy and stayed with him when we put him down. He was about 15-17 years old.

improving

Valerie is improving, thanks to the anti-nausea medication. She finally got a good nap since her tummy wasn't in constant turmoil! We've moved up from pedilyte popcicles to saltine crackers!

rough night

Valerie is so sick, I'd much rather it be me. She threw up 8 times between 1 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. this morning. Her doc has called in a anti-nausea med for her which Price Pharm is going to deliver...gotta love that! Hopefully, that will help her hold down enough fluids so she doesn't dehydrate. She's resting on my lap which is where she prefers to be, that's okay by me. My poor baby.

Val's Sick

This morning when I got Valerie up to go to pre-school she told me she had a headache. I brushed it off, thinking she just heard another kid at school say that. I went to pick her up this afternoon and she was crying, saying her head was hurting. If I didn't feel bad enough, I felt worse when she told me, "I told you I not feel good, Mama." Rip my heart out!
I took her to the walk-in clinic and the doc said she is just coming down with something. Less than 20 minutes later in the car, she throws up. My poor baby! Now she's crying and upset because she has puke all over her. I get her home, clean her up (and the car seat) and she says she's hungry. I guess so since she just threw her guts up. She had a bowl of chicken noodle soup, and asked for more. I made her wait 20 minutes to make sure we weren't going to see that again, then let her have another bowl. She lapped that up to. Hopefully this is just a stomach bug and not the flu! I hope my baby feels better soon!

work

So I got off shift this morning and planned to work on the hydrant project until about 2:00 today. First thing this morning Chief Allen told me I got picked for a random drug test so I had to go waste an hour and half doing that. Then I came back to Station 3 to get the hydrant stuff and the pick-up and stupid thing was dead as hammer! AHHH! The curse of the hydrants! Luckily, our mechanic was there so he jumped it off...what a morning! Finally, we got out in the streets to tag some hydrants and the &^$%# Trimble unit wouldn't work! Waste of a day! So frustrating!
Valerie makes it all go away when I go pick her up from preschool though! She's so happy to see me and makes my day!

At Work

I'm at work on Engine 3. It's been a good day, not very busy. We did our Sunday truck checks this morning and ate a fantastic brunch prepared by Capt. Harwood. I got the October monthly report done and submitted to my Battalion Chief and then got caught up on email. The guys have watched football all day, which I don't really mind until it interferes with NASCAR like it did today! Oh, well!

First Post

Yeah! Ain't I gettin' tech savvy?! I have my own blog! LOL
